When it comes to getting photo books done for your family the biggest issue is the time it takes to sift through all the photos you've taken. This causes a lot of you to become overwhelmed and stressed. And you're not alone. This is the number one reason why families do not get their photo books done; the sheer amount of photos we take on a yearly basis (or even for a single event) is just too much to handle sometimes.
So, how do we tackle this important task without the stress? After all, our memories are supposed to bring us joy, not fill us with anxiety.
I like to break down making photo books into bite sized to do's. Small steps that are easier to handle and can become a part of our every day habits instead of leaving it to build up to where it's unmanageable. If there is one thing we know for sure it's that we are not going to stop documenting all the days, so let's employ better ways to deal with it all, yes?
My number one tip is this:
Replace the habit of scrolling your social media with choosing your favorite photos.
During those precious idle (and possibly silent) moments where you have a couple minutes of time to yourself, choose your favorite photos. It will probably last two minutes - I mean, you're a parent, so that's just the way it goes! But, in two minutes, you can probably choose your favorites from the past week or past couple of days. Add up those 2 minutes over and over and in small chunks of time you've basically curated your photo book.
You can do this in your camera roll or (and this is my recommendation), you can do this in your cloud provider. I recommend using Amazon Photos - if you were wondering. Wherever you choose your favorites, you'll be narrowing down your photos to only those moments that you truly love.
Those moments will inevitably grace the pages of your photo book and at the end of a year or at the end of a family vacation, you have already done most of the work. Then it's just a matter of filtering by your favorites and voila! You're ready to make those photo books!
Oh, and don't forget to choose your favorite videos! There are a lot of cool things you can do with your family videos. If you have your favorites chosen, then it's easier to do something with them too!
Done and done. I love a two birds/one stone situation, don't you?
